Abstract

Among pets (dog, cat) there is an increasing number of cases of tumorous diseases. In the last few years, the development in the examination of human patients, the diagnostical procedures and the different therapeutical methods in veterinary medicine (following the human practice) have gained an important role. However, making a correct diagnosis is difficult. It partly lies on the lack of routine diagnostical methods (blood and citological examination, non invasive diagnostical imaging methods) and on the lack of the histopathological analysis that will be done only in few cases. The ill animals are examined in a far gone stadium when they are absolutely not treatable or only with little success. The aim of this study is to have a view about the role of the different prognostic factors and the available diagnostic methods (imaging, histology, immunochemistry) in the examination of canine mammary tumors.
