Estimation of genotype environment interaction on various Hungarian pig breeds

Based on the field and station tests data of the Belgian Landrace, Duroc and Pietrain breeds, collected between 1997–2001 genetic parameters were estimated for various backfat measurements (shoulder, mid-back, loin). Heritabilities of the backfat traits measured in course of the field test ranged between 0.08-0.62, meanwhile, their genetic correlation coefficients varied between 0.73-1.00. Somewhat higher heritability estimates were observed for backfat traits (shoulder, mid-back, loin) of the station test (0.23-0.62). However, the received genetic correlation coefficients between the station test traits were not higher (0.31-0.99) than that of the field test. The genetic correlation coefficients between field test traits and their station test counterparts showed large standard errors (0.15-0.39) therefore the received values (-0.23-1.00) should be treated with caution.
