Connection between body composition estimation possibilities using self performance and progeny tests

Account method of EUROP Self Performance Test is based on the evaluation of lean meat %. Lean meat % evaluation method of progeny test is thought to be more reliable than of different evaluation methods. EUROP SPT however it is more expensive. Objective of our examination was to find the correlation between parameters of EUROP SPT and data measured by FOM machine in the slaughterhouse. We were curious to know the connection of these results with other parameters, which are very important in estimation of progeny test. Altogether we have evaluated data of 181 animals, which had been tested on the Animal Performance Testing Station in Atkár in 2000. Four lean meal % evaluation methods were used: EUROP SPT on live animals one day before slaughtering, EUROP SPT on the carcass, lean meat % evaluation by FOM machine and ZP method. The coefficients of correlation between the four lean meat % were r=0.6-0.8. There was strong relationship between accounted and evaluated values in every evaluation methods. Relationships between fat depth parameters of different evaluation methods were strong. But correlation between ZP meat size and loindepth, especially loin measured by ultrasound, was weaker. The measurement methods are approved to be relevant for evaluation of lean meat % but it is important to analyse the aggregate effect of their internal parameters.
