Abstract

In September 2015, the 193 member states of the United Nations adopted a new program, Agenda 2030 that contain the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The 17 overall goals and 169 related targets following the Millennium Development Goals create an integrated system that builds an international framework for sustainable development and link it with the development goals. The article, starting from the different interpretations of the sustainable development concept and the Millennium Goals, reviews the new global vision of SDGs, highlighting their strengths and weaknesses. The SDG’s implementation is yet to come, and depends crucially on the national level implementations, the cross-sectorial integration, the strengthening of global partnership and financing.
