Abstract

The Mosonta-hegy vineyard is found in the northern outskirts of Létavértes, E-Hungary (Fig. 1.)Tiny thatched grape-barns hidden among the sand dunes of the 11.5 hectare private allotment (Fig. 6.) The greater volume vine-growing started in the second half of the XIX. century here (Figs. 4., 5.). Those vineyards which still preserve the peasant husbanding and architectural traditions today, were established at that time. Some of the former grape-barns converted into week-end houses, with their entirely new functions, accompany the architectural solutions lacking in tradition.
Up until now the Hortobágy National Park Management has connected merely a single, approximately 120 metre vineyard sections display zone of the Hajdúság Landscape Conservation District in 1988.
Protection of nature and historical buildings alone is not sufficient, protection of the traditional husbanding is also necessary. Combined preservation of the beauty of nature, the traditional husbanding adapting to the regional fundamentals and the folk architecture, represents the complex landscape protection task in this area.
