Use of stallions in Hungary
Abstract
The stud number in Hungary is between 1100-1200, which is proven to be enough to cover insemination of Hungary’s mare stock. The ownership relations of studs have changed; private ownership has increased from 25% to 56%.
Besides the increasing the number of studs, the proportion of cold-blooded and pony has increased as well, while rate of warm-blooded has still been 73%.
The number of imported studs has grown. The average age of studs has decreased from 11.09 to 9.34 years. The number of artificial insemination stations had been increasing until 2002, but after that, unfortunately, their number has been decreasing year by year.
