Abstract

The Lemna minor growth inhibition test is widely used in ecotoxicology, the standard is to be introduced in Hungary (ISO/FDIS 20079: Water quality - Determination of the toxic effect of water constituents and waste water on duckweed (Lemna minor) - Duckweed growth inhibition test. According to available test protocols, growth can be assessed on the basis of frond number, wet weight and total frond surface. The Duckweed Detector developed at the De partment of Image Processing and Neurocomputing of the University of Pannonia carries out surface measurements automatically, distinguishing between healthy and dead (chlorotic/necrotic) fronds.
