Abstract

The author - leader of a milk production integrating association - analysed the competitiveness of milk production considering the unique conditions of the eastern provinces of Germany. Based on his experiences and comparing statistical data of the territoiy, he ascertained that the key factors for profit are concentration, specialisation and strict management of expenditures. According to his views the optimal farm size is 300-600 cow perform. According to the income and of the specific inputs the profitability threshold is 7000 kg/cow. The precondition for successful economical functioning is a management, which is professional has strict management of expenditures, and is highly motivated. In this organisational structure there is a chance and the potential of profitable milk production based on employed workers, is competitive to farming systems based on family ownership.
