Abstract

The Kámoni Arborétum may be interpreted and evaluated in several ways. While being an arborétum, the main aspects of the evaluation are biological value and diversity, keeping the origins of the Old Park in mind, its historic value is nonetheless significant (just like its decorative or stylistic value). At the same time, in the urban landscape, the country-widely increasing importance of social and recreational-touristic expectations should also be noted. These, according to the current management of the arborétum, represent one of the basic pillars of the development. Therefore, it is necessary to apply a complex rehabilitation approach, which integrates all those theories, besides natúré conservation and monument preservation aspects, that completely satisfy the users' needs. This approach, however, is nőt new in the profession. One fitting example to be mentioned is the Arnold Arborétum in Boston. at the end of the 1870s, the work of its designers, Charles Sprague Sargent and Frederick Law Olmsted, was led by two basic principles: education and aesthetics. In addition to these, it was important for the arborétum to become an organic part of the settlement’s green surface system, being directly connected to the neighboring green surface units, fulfilling the recreational needs by ensuring a "green corridor”
