Abstract

The aim of the Austrian-Hungarian project was to determine how the implementation of spatial data and new information technology (IT) can improve the execution of land consolidation projects. The researchers investigated the differences and similarities between the historical, legal and governmental background of land consolidation and rural development in the partner countries. We highlighted the new methods in geodetical data acquisition and information technology. The method of investigation of the current situation was to creating a questionnaire and asking the opinion of land offices. Establishing the information gained with the help of these questionnaires, the researches compiled recommendations concerning land consolidation, rural development. During the analyses process it was very important to observe the different legal and institutional background of the two countries. At the final report of the research project we gave a detailed description of the comparative study based on the result of the questionnaires and possible usage of new IT technologies connected to spatial data. The research project could not affect all of the process of land consolidation because it would exceed the frame of our joint project.
