Abstract

By the expansion of commercial chain stores the demand was concentrated and the retailers could hardly adapt themselves to the new circumstances. There was a need to adapt the concentrated supply according to the concentrated needs, therefore the Producers’ Trading Organizations were founded in the Grocieries industry. It is necessary to have a well-operating information system to be able to run an efficient administration and management system. The special needs of the producer trading organizations versus an information system will be shown. Since today’s commercial ERP systems don’t cover the special professional needs, as well as the high costs of these ERP systems made me wish to show the Open Source ERP systems, their functions and adaptation opportunities, conditions which can give alternative solutions for Po’s. I am highlighting the definition, characteristics, advantages, and disadvantages of Open Source softwares as well as the features the software needs to have to be called an Open Source system indeed. During my research I have done comparative analysis of several OS ERP systems according to quantitative and qualitative aspect.
