Comparison of the milking ability of different genotype beef cows and the weaning weight of their calves

It is generally established that the phenotypic correlation between the daily milk yield of the suckling cows and the weaning weight of the calves, usually 0.4-0.6, and that experimental works which related to the factors influencing the milk yield is very important. Authors examined three different beef genotypes (Hereford, n = 15; Angus × Hereford (F1) n = 15; Angus × Hereford (R1) n = 4). It was observed, that the milk yield of the pure Hereford decreased more dramatically, than that of Angus genotypes. That was also justified by the difference found in the persistence values (86.2% and 77.99%). Due to this fact the average daily milk yield (9.34 ± 2.11 kg and 6.52 ± 2.47 kg) and the weaning weight of their calves (233.12 ± 27.60 kg and 206.86 ± 22.05 kg) is higher at the Angus × Hereford F1 genotypes compared to the pure Hereford. Furthermore, the authors recommended that the comparison of milk mass obtained from different populations is relevant only after the accepted influencing factors have been corrected.
