Abstract

The study presents the professional job of the libraraies of the Benedictian secondary grammar schools on the present-day territory of Hungary from 1920 to 1948. It briefly analyses the history of the particular grammar schools and the precedents from the aspect of ecclesiastical policy, of the schools and that of the history of libraries. The annals and the school-reports of the institutions, the study of which was carried out from the aspect of the history of school libraries, served as the primary sources of the research. The analysis of their details allowed us to draw conclusions: the presentation of these conclusions can prove that the Benedictian school libraries were significant institutions of the era and the knowledge of their history can provide useful lessons for the school libraries and librarians today.
