Abstract

To predict the growth of mixed stands it is inevitable to have information about the competition between trees and species. Data for analyzing the competition within stands were taken from 4 sample plots (3 hectares each), covering the typical stands on the Sopron Hills, established in 1990 with the original goal of analyzing the growth conditions in this area. The designation of the plots has followed the guidelines of establishing long term growth and yield plots with a highly detailed site survey on each plot. The aim of the present work is to analyze the role and the different growth parameters of the single trees of these stands to allow us to express the differ- ent species and single tree characteristics with the help of corrected simple competition indices described in the literature. The using of slenderness as a correction parameter results adequate effect in these mixed stands.
