Applied Competences and Cultural Intelligence in Focus
Keywords:
personal competence, communication, employability, interculturalism, cultural intelligence, socio-cultural competenceAbstract
The objective of this article is to highlight the importance of competences and their role in our lives, as we are often unaware of how many competences we have and how many of them we actually use on a daily basis, for example in our social relationships. Personal competences can increase employability, the chances of success and competitiveness in the labour market, and some personal characteristics that have a strong impact on hiring decisions. Communication skills and language competences also contribute greatly to the selection of the ideal candidate, not to mention intercultural and multicultural communication and cultural intelligence, all of which have become indispensable in our globalising world. Socio-cultural competences can also be seen as essential nowadays. This paper provides an overview of the most common key competences, which are not only found in the labour market but also in everyday situations. The present analysis is mainly based on key findings from the literature and is therefore a review article in terms of genre.
