Abstract

The aims of the study was to investigate the effects of environmental enrichment for the small teams of squirrel monkeys and ring-tailed lemurs in Miskolc Zoo. We adopted two different methods along the enrichment. In the first period we tried to extend the feeding time with artificial feeding equipments and later we wanted to increase their activity by toys.

According to the results the behaviour of both monkey groups has changed during the enrichment period. Squirrel monkeys were moved (locomotion) more and their social contacts were also stronger. In the case of the ring-tailed lemurs we found that food seraching behaviour increased.
