Abstract

Óbuda has always played a significant role in the history of Budapest, therefore it was an interesting task to work on the Main Square (Fő tér) and the closely linked Holy Spirit Square (Szentlélek tér). The Main Square, which has kept the small town atmosphere once so typical of Óbuda, is the admin- istrative centre of the III. District in Budapest. In contrast, the Holy Spirit Square is more dynamic and lively duen to the public transport junction located there. The connection of the squares creates an interestingly close knit yet varied area. Most of the unification is thanks to the 400 years old Zichy Castle with its long homogenous wall on the East side of the two squares.
