Analyzing quality of urban greenspace in the 13th district of Budapest

Abstract

In order to define the priorities of how to improve a settlements or district’s green areas, and recreational open spaces it is necessary to be familiar with their condition. The i3th district’s Environmental Management Nonprofit Ltd introduced a new method of measuring the quality of urban greenspace during the summer of 2009. The method - which is based on the guide on “greenspace quality” by Greenspace Scotland - can be used in measuring the complex (structural, aesthetic, recreational, ecological, and social) functions of urban parks and other recreational open spaces. It can be also used for greenspace audit, to define greenspace quality standards, and also to indicate the required directions of open space development. It is also the intention of the researchers to use the method to promote discussion in the wide society about the complex roles of green areas and to increase Citizen participation in greenspace planning.
