Abstract

The Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF) concerning the foods and feeds in the European Union receives approximately 3200 announcements a year. They provide a good picture on the food safety situation in the food market in the Union and show the critical points as well as the reliable segments. Evaluation of the data of this system can be a good basis to create a food safety marketing efficiently either for one product manufactured by a given company or for a product group of a marketing organisation in the Union. Our preliminary statement qualifies some food groups being problematic from point of view of food safety. They are as follows: nuts and products made of them, fish and fish products, vegetables – fruits, small sea-fish and bakery products. Owing to the few announcements received by RASFF the following products are considered generally safe: milk and milk products, eggs and egg products and wine.
