Állattenyésztés és Takarmányozás – Animal Breeding and Feeding
Journal Description:
Állattenyésztés és Takarmányozás is a scientific, peer-reviewed journal of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, Department of Agricultural Sciences. It is published four times a year. The primary language of the journal is Hungarian, but it also publishes scientific articles in English on topics related to animal husbandry, breeding, and feeding.
Ownership
Állattenyésztés és Takarmányozás is owned by the Hungarian University of Agriculture and Life Sciences (MATE). The owner is represented by the Rector of the University.
Mission Statement
Founded in 1981, Állattenyésztés és Takarmányozás is a quarterly scientific journal, occasionally supplemented with special issues. It publishes original research papers, study results, reviews, and personnel-related announcements in Hungarian and English in the fields of animal breeding and closely related disciplines.

Peer Review
The journal uses double-blind peer review. Submitted manuscripts are evaluated anonymously by two independent reviewers.
Conflict of Interest Policy:

Authors and reviewers must not belong to the same institution or department.

Editorial board members or reviewers who submit manuscripts as authors or co-authors cannot participate in the review or editorial process of those manuscripts.

The editor handling a manuscript may not coordinate the review of a manuscript in which they are an author or co-author. Multiple journal managers are employed to ensure compliance.

Authors must declare that no financial or personal conflicts exist that could influence the results or interpretation of their research.
Plagiarism Check
Since January 2026, all submitted manuscripts undergo similarity checking using the Turnitin software provided by MATE. Manuscripts with a high similarity index are returned to the authors for revision.
Manuscript Processing Time

From submission to publication: 2–8 months.

If a manuscript does not meet content or format requirements or fails the plagiarism check, the corresponding author is notified within 2–4 weeks.
Financial Terms

No fees are charged for manuscript evaluation or publication.

The journal provides immediate open access to all content, allowing free and legal reuse of scientific results.
Revenue and Marketing
Revenue: Fully funded by the Hungarian University of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
Advertising and Direct Marketing: The journal does not publish advertisements. Content is distributed via the University’s OJS platform, with full open access. No other marketing methods are used.

Access: All content is freely and permanently available to readers and institutions without charge. Users may read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, link, or use the articles for lawful purposes without prior permission, in line with the BOAI definition of open access.

License: Articles are published under CC-BY-NC-ND 4.0, allowing sharing with attribution (BY), non-commercial use (NC), and no derivatives (ND).

Author Rights: Authors may post preprints and postprints without time or financial restrictions, with appropriate notices clarifying the version is not the final published version. The final published version may also be shared, with full citation and DOI.

Research Data Management
The journal encourages authors to manage research data in accordance with FAIR principles, promoting transparent, reproducible, and ethical research practices.
Text and Data Mining Policy:
The publisher supports authors in increasing the visibility of their work by facilitating text and data mining. Access for web robots is provided on the publisher’s platform, which is continuously updated.
Privacy Policy:
Names and emails provided to the editorial office are used only for editorial purposes and are not shared with third parties.
