The European Union in the Lisbon Strategy has set a target that 12.5% of the adult population should participate in lifelong learning. The ‘Europe 2020’ plan increased this proportion to 15%. Higher education plays an important role in achieving this goal. Mature students, however, are a different challenge for universities in the organization of trainings as well as in teaching methodology than young students of traditional college age. In my paper I present the characteristics of the mature student friendly universities in the frame of an American model.
