Valencia, lying on the side of the Mediterranean Sea, stores many features of interest from an urban planner’s or landscape architect’s aspect. Beside the obvious differences to Budapest in terms of fauna, the city’s green network1 is clearly large and rich. This partly stems from the city’s history, and partly from the urban-political decisions that have been made in the past half century. Recognizing that the previous decisions had a positive effect on the residents’ lives prompted the leaders of city to aim for establishing a “green city”, following the European trends, and establish a life-friendly habitat. However, similarly to the situations experienced in Hungary, there are obstacles between the decisions and the implementations thereof. Viewing the important phases in terms of green-network building, the turning points of city and its development and the plans taking shape presently, the learnings mark an uprise in the significance of urban landscaping.
