Abstract

In Hungary nutrition plays a determining role in the development of the most serious chronic
illnesses. In the past years we made a questionnaire survey about high school students’ dietary
habits. The results justify that there would be need for further, more efficient work. That is why we
proposed to ourselves to reveal the knowledge and habits of the young persons living in Trans-
Danubia and to find more suitable ways to arouse their interest. In this study we carried out two
focus group discussions in Kaposvár, Keszthely and Győr. As a summary of the focus group
discussions’ results it can be said that young persons have more and more information about
healthy nutrition, but this knowledge is not enough. Children are aware of the reasons why it is
necessary, but their dining could be influenced mostly by their parents. Parents and children should
be shown that healthy nutrition does not mean resignation from delicious foods, while on the one
hand, everything can be eaten, only the measure has to be allocated well, on the other hand, healthy
foods are delicious as well, and their preparation is, in most cases, not more time-consuming than
any other meal’s.
