Open Access Policy
Open Access Statement – Publications of the Hungarian University of Agriculture and Life Sciences (MATE)
1. Mission and Purpose
The Hungarian University of Agriculture and Life Sciences (MATE) is committed to ensuring free and open access to scientific knowledge. In line with this mission, all university-published journals and scholarly publications operate according to Open Access (OA) principles, promoting the broad dissemination and social utility of research results.
2. Type of Access
All content published in MATE journals is made available immediately and free of charge upon publication (Gold Open Access model), without embargo periods or subscription requirements.
3. Copyright and Licensing
Authors retain full copyright over their work. Articles are published under a Creative Commons license, by default:
-
CC BY 4.0,
or another license as specified by the individual journal (e.g., CC BY-NC-ND).
4. Self-Archiving
Authors are permitted to deposit any version of their manuscript (preprint, accepted, or published) in:
-
institutional repositories,
-
personal websites,
-
and recognized open repositories (e.g., arXiv, Zenodo).
Use of the final published version (publisher's PDF) is encouraged, along with proper citation and DOI reference.
5. DOI and Long-Term Preservation
Each publication receives a unique Digital Object Identifier (DOI). Journals are archived through the OJS platform and, where possible, via long-term digital preservation services such as LOCKSS or CLOCKSS.
6. Publisher Transparency
Each journal must clearly state the following information on its website:
-
Open Access policy details,
-
licensing terms,
-
and self-archiving rights.
7. Alignment with International Standards
MATE supports the principles of international organizations such as DOAJ, COPE, and OASPA. The university encourages its journals to register in the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ) and adhere to best practices in scholarly publishing.
