Eligibility of „Kisbéri” horse for sport in comparison with other breeds in Hungary

The „kisbéri” is a traditional Hungarian horse breed which was a thoroughbred-like saddle horse for military use from its origin as well later on long time. It was breed and selected for 100 years practically similar to the nowdays aspects of three day event by hunting, racing and military use. However, after the World War II. regarding to sport use it was a marked contraselection. In the end of the 20th century started again the breeding and selection for sport purposes. Thus, analysing the data of licensed sport horses in 2004 results are as follows: the number of „kisbéri” horses in the sport is the highest among the traditional Hungarian horse breeds and furthermore, the ratio of „kisbéri” horses is always the second behind the section specialised breeds. To insist on focusing sport results it is very important aim to preserve the traditional type and provide a nice partner to the horse lovers.
