Monograph and gene preservation of Hucul breed
Abstract
The study is the monograph of the Hucul breed. Hucul is a primitive breed with geographical expansion in the woody Carpathians, which was evolved by special ethnical group. Nowadays, this stock is an indispensable population for the reservation of the genetic diversity. The bottom-neck impact has occurred twice in the last 150 years, however the population of the breed has been managed to be increased. The studbook of the Hucul breed is closed, in order to hinder the alteration of the possibly original genome. The Hucul is bred in the successor states of the Austro-Hungary in harmony with the strict rules of the gene preservation. The original purpose of the breed has been changed, but it found its role in the altered scale of values. This study introduces the above-mentioned processes.
