Abstract

The Hungarian Reflection of the Mexican Cristero Rebellion At the end of the 1920s Mexico was embroiled in a religious conflict, the so-called Cristero rebellion, which was a religious social uprising between 1926 and 1929 against the anticatholic and anticlerical government of Plutarco Elías Calles. There was a considerable international response to the religious persecution in Mexico. In this present essay I intend to show the Hungarian reflection of the Cristero war through analyzing diplomatic reports of Hungarian delegates, news from the Hungarian News Agency (MTI) and also focus on the publications of the Hungarian press with regard to the Mexican conflict between church and state.
